Photo: ©︎ Nacása and Partners Inc. FUTA Moriishi I designed THE HARBOUR, a forty-year-old canal-side building that has been renovated into a hotel-like mixed-use facility under the concept of Elegant & Vintage. The project consolidates living, working, dining and social activities within a single structure, establishing a multifunctional environment comparable to that of a boutique hotel. The renovation approach emphasized preserving the temporal character of the existing building while introducing a refined contemporary expression. Materials, lighting and textures were composed to balance elegance with vintage character, creating a cohesive atmosphere aligned with the concept. The canal-facing location was leveraged to form a spatial connection between the waterfront and the urban fabric of Shibaura. Positioned as a new “harbour” that links people, the city and daily activities, the project contributes to revitalizing the Shibaura area. THE HARBOUR received the Minato City Landscape Design Award (Encouragement Prize) in recognition of its contribution to the local environment.
