Photo: ©︎ Nacása & Partners Inc. FUTA Moriishi I designed GIN to AGAVE – BAARA, a bar located in Ginza. The concept is defined by maturity, delicacy, and gentle waves. Inspired by gin and agave spirits enjoyed around the world, the space reinterprets the boldness inherent in the distillation process alongside the refined sensibility of Japanese aesthetics. These contrasting qualities are enveloped in a subtle, wave-like spatial expression and reconstructed as a unified environment. Rather than a tense or overly quiet atmosphere, the space is conceived to embody a calm liveliness characteristic of Ginza, where the presence of people and conversation naturally blends into the environment. The “waves” embedded in the design shift with time, light, and occupancy, leaving slightly different impressions with each visit. Existing materials are preserved and layered with textures such as washi and metal. A deep black tone inspired by forged steel is introduced as an accent, while the counter surface is polished to reveal its inherent material character. The mirrored ceiling, subtly distorted, evokes a sense of movement and gently envelops the space. At the entrance, an original logo inspired by gin and agave is presented alongside juniper berry aromas and agave itself, creating a sensory experience through both sight and scent. The space exists between stillness and motion, offering a place to experience that balance through drinking.
